Cooking Corner

My mother was an excellent cook. Through her cooking, she showed us her love with a little pinch of this and a pinch of that. I fondly remember the times we spent in the kitchen together as I tried to learn from her and duplicate her recipes.

I have since adopted my mom's love of cooking over the years. It makes me happy when someone has a pleasurable experience after one of my yummy new creations has passed their lips.

I'm not a gourmet chef ... far from it, to be honest. For many years I traveled extensively around the world, so I enjoy trying recipes from countries where I have spent time. I can easily recreate beautiful memories with a little music and ingredients from far off lands.

Delicious food is used in celebrations and can provide comfort in times of need.  Most of all, it keeps us healthy if we know what to do.  All it takes is a cup of desire and determination, a pinch of know-how, and a dash of patience.

Many families have passed on their favorite recipes for generations.  Some have no changes, but some are a healthier version of the original.

Healthy Cooking

Over the past years, there has been an awareness of what healthier cooking should resemble. There are so many opinions it has become confusing.  Please speak to your physician or dietitian and get their advice on how they want you to proceed.

Here at Cooking Corner, I am looking forward to helping you learn the basics of cooking so you and your family can whip up healthy meals together.

We will have fun with videos of children's cooking lessons created by professional chefs.  I will teach you the names of necessary utensils and outline the cooking terms used in the kitchen.  There are lots of new foods to learn about, including spices, herbs, fruits, vegetables, grains, and more.

I will provide you with some delicious recipes that are easy and fun to make.  It is necessary to make things simple so that the children look forward to being in the kitchen with their parents, and vice versa.  Once you have mastered the basics, there is plenty of room in the future for learning more.

When kids learn how to cook from an early age, they will become self-sufficient and have the self-confidence to choose healthy foods instead of eating junk food when they are hungry.  These skills will transfer into adulthood.

So let's get in the kitchen and start learning! Grab your aprons, and here we go!
